The K&N-Sponsored Pro Motorsports UTV Team has Eventful WORCS Round 8

Matt Hancock racing in the Cedar City, Utah WORCS round

The Cedar City race was especially disappointing for Hancock considering his fast practice sessions

The K&N-sponsored Pro Motorsports race team of Matt Hancock and Gareth Dihel had a rocky weekend of WORCS racing at Iron Mine Race Park in Cedar City, Utah.

Hancock was extremely fast in Pro Stock practice and he carried that speed into the start of the main event. He jumped out to the lead early in the race. Unfortunately, an electrical gremlin took Hancock out of contention and he ended up finishing 15th. He now sits in 4th overall in the WORCS Pro Stock points standings.

“The car was dialed in...I had a car that could win the race,” said Hancock. “I got out front and just started driving my race. Then bad luck struck. I had a radiator fan plug pull apart, the car overheated and it went into limp mode. It was pretty devastating to me. We have three rounds left. I know (what) I can do and I am just going to keep charging.”

In the Pro race, Hancock experienced performance issues on corner exits in his Polaris.

“The car was running awesome, but I had issues pulling out of the corners,” said Hancock. “I needed the points, and the finish is not what I know I’m capable of. I know I can run up front, but at least we got a finish and got some points.”

Hancock finished the Pro race in 11th and is now planted in the fourth position in points in that class, as well.

Dihel had issues of his own in the SxS 1000 Stock race, but his end result was much more positive than his teammate. Dihel was on a mission after his DNF in the prior WORCS round.

Like Hancock, Dihel got a solid start, but his race quickly turned upside down...literally.

“Everything was going pretty well, but one of the corners snuck up on me,” said Dihel. “With the dust, I didn’t see it in time. The brakes made the car go sideways. I hit a berm and flipped over. I got out, flipped the car back over and got to do some more racing.”

After he righted the ship, Dihel finished 3rd, and now holds a solid 20-point lead in the SxS 1000 Stock championship race.

The K&N-sponsored Pro Motorsports race team will return to action as the WORCS series heads to the first of two races at Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, California.
