Big changes were made to the Escape, Mariner, and Tribute line of compact SUVs for 2009. A decision was reportedly made at Ford Motor Company to provide more power and better performance for its line of small SUVs, while using less fuel. Revisions ranged from increased horsepower, a more efficient six-speed automatic transmission, improved aerodynamics, lower rolling resistance and revised suspension.
