NASCAR K&N Pro Series Racer Dylan Kwasniewski Wins at Langley Speedway in Virginia

Daniel Suarez was second, but his car did not pass inspection and his team was penalized after the race.
Kwasniewski won his third race of the season. He led a race-high 132 laps in the Visit Hampton VA 175 passing Brett Moffitt on lap 46. Moffitt entered the race as the leader in the K&N Pro Series East standings. But Moffitt's car had handling problems and he slipped out of contention early in the race. He finished in 20th place and eight laps off the pace. "At first we battled with Brett," Kwasniewski said. "He's the points leader and I'm in second. I knew it was tight and I knew we had to get by him. We needed that win." After Moffitt fell back, Kwasniewski battled Suarez and Jesse Little for the lead for the remainder of the race. There were four caution periods in the last 45 laps of the race, creating plenty of opportunities for other drivers to challenge Kwasniewski.
"It was tough," Kwasniewski said. "The restarts were definitely not what I wanted. I would like to stay out there in front. It always gives us a challenge and makes us race a little bit more. It was a great car and a great night. I'm glad we came out with a win." Kwasniewski, the 2012 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion, has an 18-point lead over Moffitt after seven races in the K&N Pro Series East standings. Suarez crossed the finish line in second place, but his crew chief, Clyde "Skip" Eyler, and team owner, Max Seigel, were fined, suspended and penalized in the owners standings after the car was found to have violated NASCAR rules during post-race inspection. Eyler was fined $1,000 and suspended until he pays his fine. He was also put on probation until Aug. 28. Seigel was penalized six points in the owners standings. Suarez also lost six points in the driver standings. Suarez, 10th in the K&N Pro Series East standings, posted his first top-five finish of the season.
"We know that we have a good piece to fight in the front," Suarez said after the race. "We did that. I'm happy with the result. Try to keep this momentum going and see what we can do in Columbus in two weeks." Little finished in third place and matched his best career finish in the K&N Pro Series East. "It was very eventful. I think the rain out put us in a bind, but I knew we had a really fast car," Little said. "I was a little but bummed but I knew it would be nothing but fun driving up through the field and it certainly was. Everyone drove me clean. All these drivers are really phenomenal. It was a blast to race with them." Rain washed out qualifying and Little started in 20th place on the 10th row. The rookie driver worked his way to the front and battled for the lead late in the race. For Kwasniewski, it was his eighth career win in the K&N Pro Series. He has five wins in the K&N Pro Series West. "The car was outstanding and it was tough fighting off Daniel on those last restarts," Kwasniewski said. "I knew we had the car to beat and I knew we had to stay calm, cool and collected and we could take home the win." The next race in the K&N Pro Series East is the NAPA Auto Parts 150 at Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio on July 13. |
